Welcome!

Our goal is to give you the health and safety awareness you need to protect yourself and your fellow workers.

Why?

Because an average of 42 young Ontario workers are injured, made ill, or killed on the job every day. Think of it. That's almost 2 young workers injured every hour of every day and every night, seven days a week, and it's often because of what they didn't know.

This site contains health and safety information for young workers, their parents, teachers, principals, employers and others. Though the information is specific to the province of Ontario, Canada (the Young Worker Awareness Program is only available to Ontario high schools), others may also find it useful. Health and safety on the job knows no boundaries.

Who is a young worker?

If you're working - part-time or full-time - and you're between 15 and 24 years of age, then you are considered to be a young worker.

What is YWAP?

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and its health and safety partners believe that these injuries and deaths could have been prevented.

So we've created the YOUNG WORKER AWARENESS PROGRAM - to give students the information they need to protect their health and safety on the job.

The program is available to any high school in the province of Ontario, Canada. It has two components, a general assembly presentation and a classroom instruction segment. Both the general assembly and classroom components stress student interaction.

Using video and other materials, trained instructors will come to any Ontario high school to deliver this crucial message. Students receive a resource booklet and other information. There is no charge to the student or school for this program.

The program is offered by the the Industrial Accident Prevention Association, the Ontario Service Safety Alliance and the Workers Health and Safety Centre, organizations funded by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board of Ontario.
